Crossing from Staten Island and entering the New York harbor is an impressive sight. Once again we did not stop in New York, but just passed through. But here are a few shots of the harbor and of course the welcoming lady herself.

 

Our stay for the night was at Half Moon Bay in Croton on Hudson. This was a return visit for us. So this may look familiar.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6/25/16                        Catskill, NY

We headed further up the Hudson River to Riverview Marina. This was a very picturesque trip and I hope these shots give you an idea of the beauty of the Catskills as seen from the river.

 

We also dined again at the Port of Call Restaurant.

 

6/26/16                        Waterford, NY

We continued up the Hudson River to Waterford. This marks the beginning of the Erie Canal. The first lock is actually on the Hudson before turning left into Waterford. You can continue straight and take the Champlain Canal however our boat is too tall for that route. We stayed the night right on the wall and got an early start the next day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6/27/16                        Amsterdam, NY

If you are interested in knowing more about the Erie Canal locks, check our original posts,  July last year. Our first day on the Erie took us to Riverlink Park where we again stayed on the wall.

6/28/16                        Ilion, NY

This portion of the Erie Canal is made up primarily of the Mohawk River and numerous sections of manmade canals.

Here are some scenic shots along our way.

 

We arrived at Ilion Marina in the rain. We stayed the night on the wall. Our welcome here came with a bagpipe serenade.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When we arrived and shut of the motors, we were unable to restart one motor. We’re not sure how bad this is but we’ll have to wait until we get into Brewerton to find out.

6/29/16                        Sylvan Beach, NY

We headed out on one motor today and so far it hasn’t been bad. We are still able to motor along at about 8 – 9 mph. We arrived at the high point of the canal system at lock 20. We had been lifted a total of 420 feet. We also started our way back down.

We stayed on the wall at Sylvan Beach. This is a very interesting little resort town, complete with a beach and a full amusement park.

 

6/30/16 – 7/6/16          Brewerton, NY

Our trip across Oneida Lake on one motor was actually quite pleasant. We arrived at Winter Harbor Marina and have had the motor checked out. It seems we blew a headgasket. So we will be here for another week or two. Both heads are out for resurfacing and then they will be reinstalled.

 

The Brewerton Speedway is just up the street and we went to the races with several other loopers on our first Friday night.

 

The marina has two courtesy cars, so we haven’t been limited to just where we can go by bike. That has been a great help. There are quite a few little restaurants fairly close, so we have checked many out already. We were able to enjoy the 4^th of July fireworks from our back deck.

We are expecting Ken’s daughter and her husband, Denise and Bill for a visit, so we are planning to do some sightseeing in the area. So we will have more of our Brewerton stay to share later.

I am a little early with this post, but I think it is going to be too hard to wait too long between postings.

We spent a wonderful month in Havre De Grace celebrating lots of wonderful family accomplishments and visiting with friends and family.

06/14/16                      Delaware City

Well we’re off again. This stop took us to Delaware City for the night. This is a cute little city right on the canal/river. We enjoyed a dinner with Kathleen and Steve from Our Time and Phil and Pam from Inspiration.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

06/15/16 – 06/18/16    Cape May, NJ

This was a really good stop for us last year so we came back again. Our host for our stay was Utsch’s Marina. The dockage again came with a bottle of wine. They definitely make you welcome.  We used our bikes to get down to Washington Mall, which consists of 3 blocks of blocked traffic with little shops and restaurants all along the way. We spent an afternoon with Debbie and Henry down at the Mall. Their boat is Seven Tenths. We also had a wonderful dinner at the Lobster House with Kathleen, Steve, Lynn and Wayne from LeryLynnl.

06/19/16                      Manasquan, NJ

Our next stop was Hoffman’s Marina West at Manasquan, NJ. We travelled over 100 miles (10 hours) so we were exhausted when we arrived. We were grateful that the restaurant was so close. We again enjoyed dinner with Kathleen and Steve.

 

6/20/16 – 6/23/16        Staten Island, NY

We are now on Staten Island, NY at the Great Kills Yacht Club. We are visiting with John, April, Allie, Katie and John Jr previously from the Sequacious. You may remember them from our stay in Mackinac Island, MI. They found and bought a new boat since we last saw them and we wanted to stop and seen them. They went with us to dinner to help us celebrate our 25^th anniversary and that was great fun.

We left Myrtle Beach on 4/28/16 to start our second year of boating. We took our time coming up to Havre De Grace.

4/29/16                                    Morehead City, NC.

On our second day of travels we went Ocean bound for our 86 mile trip. It was a very cloudy and misty day and we wound up going through some Navy maneuvers. It was really cool! Ken was contacted by two Aircraft Carriers to determine our intentions and to warn us we needed to maintain a 2 mile distance from them. We were only about 1 ½ miles away when they contacted us. There was also an amphibious assault ship with a helicopter and a landing vessel. 5/1/16 – 5/2/16            Bellhaven, NC

We stayed at the River Forest Marina and had dinner at our favorite restaurant “Tavern at Jack’s Neck”.

 

5/2/16                          Coinjock, NC

We spent the night at Coinjock Marina.

 5/3/16                          Chesapeake, VA

 We spent the night at the Top Rack Marina and had another spectacular meal at the Amber Lantern Restaurant, which meant our dockage was free.

5/4/16- 5/5/16              Kilmarnock, VA

We stayed at the Chesapeake Boat Basin. They had a loner car and we were able to do some shopping.

 

5/6/16 – 5/8/16            Solomon’s Island, MD

5/9/16 – 5/10/16          Oxford, MD

Our next stop was Brewer Oxford Marina. This was a very historic and sleepy little town with it’s own little car ferry.

We stopped here to check out Hemingway’s Restaurant. It was very nice!

It was really a good thing we were stopping for the night, since the weather was getting very foggy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

5/12/16 -                      Havre De Grace, MD

We pulled into Log Pond Marina in Havre de Grace. This is a very neat little town that is building up its waterfront appeal. There are lots of restaurants and a fair number of shops.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We will be staying here until our new grandchild arrives. She is due to make her appearance on June 19^th.  We have already been to a wonderful cook-out at my son’s with the rest of our family which we have really missed. We look forward to hearing from and meeting up with our friends while we are here.
