7/27/16 – 8/18/16        Back to Baltimore

7/27/16 – 7/28/16        Brewerton cont’d

Well good news, there was no fuel leaking into the oil. So Ken replaced the primer pump and did another oil change and things seem to be OK. So we decided it was time to head for Baltimore.

7/29/16                                    Ilion, NY

The boat ran great! That was a really big relief. We got a little bit of a shower on our way through Sylvan Beach.

7/30/16 -7/31/16          St. Johnsville, NY

This was a very small town, but it had some interesting scenery.

8/1/16 – 8/2/16                        Scotia, NY

This was a great stop. We stayed at the municipal pier, which was adjacent to a wonderful park. The city itself was not real touristy, so it was quite nice.

We were able to enjoy their weekly free water ski show right from the boat.

8/3/16                          Waterford, NY

This is the end of the Erie Canal. We actually have one more lock tomorrow on the Hudson in Troy NY and then we won’t have another until we get to Virginia.

Check out this French boat that was on the wall behind us. And this other one from Canada also.

We didn’t get to see this barge go all the way into the lock, but I thought it was a good picture.

8/4/16                          Catskill, NY

This was the beginning of our trip down the Hudson.
It took us past Albany.

Our destination was Riverview Marina once again. This is a really cute little port.

8/5/16                          Poughkeepsie NY

This as a quick stopover since Ken had been watching the ocean weather forecast. It looks like we may have a 3 day window coming to go ocean bound from New York to the Delaware Bay.

We had a great dinner at the Shadows restaurant.

8/6/16                          Croton on Hudson, NY

Here are some of the sights heading down the Hudson. Our destination once again was Half Moon Bay.

8/7/16                          Atlantic Highlands, NJ

Today’s trip takes us down the lower Hudson River and through the Harbor. Below are some shots of coming into New York City from the north.

This was a Sunday and the tourists were out in the harbor. It gets very crazy going through here. There are boats everywhere going in every direction.

And of course, the Statue of Liberty!

We had a quick dinner and an early night.

8/8/16                          Atlantic City

The weather window held so this was a 95 mile Ocean trip around Sandy Hook and down the Atlantic. We got a very early start and had a wonderful cruise.

We had company coming into Atlantic City.

8/9/16                          Cape May NJ

This was another Ocean trip, but only 44 miles. Here are some shots along the way.

Atlantic City Pier

We stayed at Utsch’s Marina again. Had a very nice dinner at the Lobster House and turned in early again.

8/10//16                       Chesapeake City, MD

This was a 73 mile trip up the Delaware River/Bay and then down the C & D Canal. The Delaware River can often be very rough, but again the weather was good, so it was a nice ride.

There’s lots of big traffic on the Delaware.

This is coming into Chesapeake City and our destination, Schaeffer’s Canal House, where we had a wonderful dinner.

8/11/16 – 8/17/16        Baltimore Inner Harbor, MD

This 53 mile trip took us down the remainder of the C & D Canal and then down the Chesapeake Bay to the Patapsco River.

This is probably the last time we will see the Carroll Island Power Plant from the water. For many years this was our guide into our home on Seneca Creek.

Here we are heading under the Key Bridge heading into the Baltimore Harbor. Our destination and home until Sept 12 is the Anchorage Marina on Boston Street.

From here we will be heading to Myrtle Beach, SC where we plan to find a nice condo and settle down on land.

Please get in touch and come see us before we leave.

Check back in October for our last posting.

Congratulations!!!

7/7/16 – 7/27/16          Brewerton cont’d and back to Brewerton

7/7/16 – 7/20/16          Brewerton, NY cont’d

In case you've never seen a diesel motor, here's ours while our heads were being re-surfaced and new injectors were ordered.

We had a wonderful visit from Denise and Bill. While they were with us, we were treated to a wonderful rainbow right over the boat yard owner’s house and our boat which was right behind it. Maybe this will be a good luck sign for us and our repairs.

Since we couldn’t do any boat trips with them, we went to a few places so they could see what our trip has or would have been like.
Our first trip was to the next lock we would have had to go through. Unfortunately, no boats came through while we were there. However we were joined by a Chicago tour boat when we actually went through on the 21st.

The next day we went back to our previous stop so they could see Sylvan Beach. I won’t boar you with more pictures of this stop.

Our next outing was to Clayton, NY. on the St Lawrence River. This would have been one of the stops we planned to do with them.  From there we boarded one of the sightseeing cruises to Bolt Castle on Heart Island. This castle was never completed since the man having it built for his new bride, stopped work on it when she died. What is complete today boasts what it would have been in that day and age.

In the forefront is the playhouse, including bowling alley

This is the boat house on the mainland

The cruise to the castle took us up the US side of the St. Lawrence River, and the return was in part of the Canadian side. This area is known for its Thousand Islands. Below are some sights along the St. Lawrence River.

A less auspicious trip took us back to Ilion NY to visit the Remington Museum and Armory. They still produce arms at this sight.

After Denise and Bill left us to head for Niagara Falls, we waited for our motor work to be completed. We saw some amazing boats go by as we waited.

We also made good use of the courtesy cars. We used them mostly for shopping and eating.

I had a really unique experience while we were in port. I had a butterfly come to visit and when he couldn’t find his way off the boat I was able to pick him up by his wings and set him free. I never thought I’d be able to catch a butterfly!!! Well I got a chance to do it again a day later when another butterfly did the same thing. Unbelievable huh!

7/21/16 – 7/22/16        Oswego, NY

Finally on our way, after one false start, we headed up to Oswego on Lake Ontario. This trip took us up to and through the Oswego Canal and it’s 8 locks. Our destination for the night boasted a wonderful waterfront restaurant, Alex’s on the Water.

We were entertained our first night by a free concert held just across the Oswego River. The band was very good and the crowd was amazing.

We also had music on our second night from Alex’s where we were docked.

Here are a few pictures from Oswego and Lake Ontario.

7/23/16 – 7/27             Brewerton, NY

On our way back down from Oswego our motor started smoking, so we are back at Winter Harbor. We are waiting for an oil analysis to see if there is fuel leaking into the oil, which may indicate that one of the new injectors is leaking. If it’s not that then ??????

We did pass a really cute tour boat on our return trip. Check this out.

Check back in another couple of weeks, hopefully we will be well on our way back to Baltimore.
