2/26/16 – 3/24/16        Fort Pierce FL

Before I show you the brighter side of Fort Pierce and its surrounds let me bring you up to date on our repairs. We are in the process of replacing the fuel tank.  Firstly, we had to have a full tank, about 300 gallons of fuel, pumped out of the tank. That is being stored in 55 gallon drums. The old tank has been sawed into small pieces and removed from the boat. We still need to finish the cleaning of the entire bilge to remove the diesel infected water, etc. Then hopefully by the end of next week we will get our 3 new smaller tanks. These will need to be installed and connected together. Then the drums of fuel will be filtered and loaded back into the new tanks. So we are hoping to be ready to get back underway in another 2 weeks.

Welcome to Harbortown Marina – Fort Pierce and the Cove Restaurant. I guess if you have to get stuck somewhere this is a pretty good place to be. We are actually just up the pier from the restaurant which has music most afternoons and evenings. We have been enjoying weather in the 80’s and that’s not bad either.

There is a Publix grocery store and a few restaurants within ½ mile of the marina, so we have been able to get around by bike. We did rent a car for a week to restock the boat and get to do some sightseeing. That was before we realized we needed the repair work.

We took a ride out to Fort Pierce inlet and spent the day roaming around the area. There is a great park all along the inlet and lots of places to eat and drink.

We also checked out the downtown area of Fort Pierce along with its Marina.

Florida has so many state parks it is amazing. Here’s another one along the Atlantic.

We also did a road trip up to Vero Beach. We actually stayed at the hotel next to Mulligans on one of our road trips looking for a boat several years ago.

Those of you who grew up in the Essex/Middle River area as we did might recognize this resident of Jupiter Beach, Jerry Day and his fiancée Anita. We got together with them for drinks and dinner at Jupiter Beach.

Again, this hasn’t been a bad place to be stuck. We are going to need to rent a car again to restock the boat. So we may have some more pictures before we leave.

I probably won’t post again for a few weeks. By then we should hopefully be on our way again.

Happy Easter Everyone

2/22/16 – 2/25/16        North Miami – Nettles Island

Firstly, I would like to apologize for the lateness of this posting. I had originally planned to include our stay in Fort Pierce, but we are still in Fort Pierce with a major problem. We are working on getting our fuel take repaired or replaced.

2/22/16 – 2/23/16        North Miami Beach

This trip was also up the Eastern Intracoastal. We traveled through Biscayne Bay which is a large body of water, and opens into the Atlantic.

These shots are as we approached Miami and Miami Beach, and entered the Port of Miami.

This is still Biscayne Bay and it is actually still quite wide in some sections. Here are some pictures of Miami.

And these are of an island in the bay that people anchor and swim.

And finally our destination, Bill Bird Marina

Check out the sand bar outside the marina.

We made a trip by bike over to the actual beach.

2/24/16                        Lantana

Lantana is actually an area on the inland side of the Intracoastal across from South Palm Beach. We were unable to get into a marina in Palm Beach. Again these marinas are all quite full since the weather has not been good for the trip over to the Bahamas.

On our way up we passed numerous beaches. Here are some pictures along the way.

This is Hollywood Beach

This is Fort Lauderdale. And the yachts are huge.

This is our destination, Loggerhead Marina in Lantana. We tied up, had dinner at their restaurant and called it a night.

Here is the famous “Mar-a-Lago” on Palm Beach. This was originally owned by       Marjorie Merriweather Post and is now owned by Donald Trump.

3/25/16                        Nettles Island

Nettles Island is actually an island attached to Jenson Beach. This was another 50+ mile trip, so we passed a lot of Florida Beaches. Here are some pics along the way:

Jupiter Inlet

Below is entering Nettles Island Marina, our destination for the night.

Again we tied up for the night and were out again the next day headed for Fort Pierce.

I will post our Fort Pierce stay next week. And by then should be able to let you know when to expect another posting. We could be here for a while longer.
