4/20/16 - 4/28/16         Hilton Head Island, SC to Myrtle Beach, SC

4/20/16 – 4/22/16        Harbour Town Yacht Basin on Hilton Head Island

Harbour Town Yacht Basin is part of the Sea Pines Resort which is extensive. It has 3 golf courses. The Harbour Town Golf Links course is played by the pros, and there are 2 others with a separate clubhouse. They also have a huge Ocean front Seaside Beach Club. They offer everything from houses to hotel rooms. Here are some wonderful pictures to enjoy.

In our travels around the island we saw more wild life than we expected

4/22/16                                    Beaufort, SC

Our trip to Beaufort was another rather short trip of only 28 miles. We only stayed long enough to have dinner but I did get a few shots to share with you.

These were on our way

4/23/16                                    Charleston, SC

We weren’t able to get a reservation in downtown Charleston so we only stayed for one night at  the Charleston Harbor Marina across the harbor. But we were able to get some great shots of the city on our way through.

This was our destination for the night. And there was even a welcoming committee of one jellyfish.

And these are part of the tour available at Patriots Point, There is also a submarine that I couldn’t get a shot of. There is also an actual satellite that you can walk through among other historical memorabilia.

4/24/16                                    Georgetown, SC

We are getting really close to the end of our Loop and are getting anxious so we are again spending only one night in Georgetown.

Here are some shots along the way.

Our dockage for the night was Georgetown Harbor Marina. It had a very nice little restaurant.

4/25/16 – 4/27/16        North Myrtle Beach, SC

Travelling to and through Myrtle Beach provided some interesting sites.

Welcome to our dockage at Barefoot Resort Marina.

Across the river is the Barefoot Landing. This is a huge shopping complex complete with restaurants and shops galore. It has walkways across the lake within its center.

4/28/16

Today we crossed our wake at Myrtle Beach Yacht Club and officially

                                                    “Completed the Great Loop”.

Our trip officially took 1 year and 16 days and we travelled 5886 miles.

The Gold Burgee represents a completed loop

This was a marvelous trip and we would recommend it to any adventurous boaters. We have met a tremendous number of really wonderful people and I expect we will stay in touch with some of them for years to come. And we have all of our marvelous memories and pictures of the scenic towns we visited along the way.

We have actually enjoyed ourselves so much that we aren’t ready to end our travels yet. We plan to head back up the East Coast and visit the East side of Canada this summer.  And then hopefully head south again next winter and head over to the Bahamas.

Thanks for following us through the Great Loop.

I will keep the blog going but will only post the highlights and probably very irregularly. We are heading back to Maryland at this time and expect to spend a month with our friends and family before heading out again. We want to be there for the Nursing graduation of our oldest grand daughter and the birth of our newest (6th) grandchild.

Come back again...

4/9/16 – 4/19/16          South Daytona Beach, FL to Possum Point Anchorage, GA.

4/9/16 – 4/12/16          South Daytona Beach

This trip took us 60 miles up the Intracoastal to South Daytona Beach. It was a little rougher trip today as you can see in this shot of a tiny island we passed

We also went through the Haulover Canal. This was loaded with fisherman and also had a very large population of Manatee. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a picture since they don’t spend any real time at the surface of the water.

Here are some other sights along the way.

Downtown Daytona
Below is us entering Adventure Yacht Harbor in South Daytona.

There is a great little restaurant right at the Marina called Boondocks. The only part of the restaurant that is really inside a building is the kitchen.

We were only a few short blocks from the ocean and made our way over by bike. Being Daytona, we had to watch for cars on the beach too.

4/13/16 – 4/15/16        St Augustine

This was another 60 mile trip to St Augustine. We passed a number of interesting sights on the way. This appears to be a deserted tug.

These homes were literally right on the waterway.

And these were in Orion by the Sea.

This is the Matanzas Inlet. That is the Ocean on the other side of the bridge.

Entering the marina at St Augustine.

This was a really neat city and everything is within walking distance of the harbor. The city is beautiful and full of historic buildings. They have a large area of town where no cars are allowed and the streets are full of shops and restaurants. We walked around quite a bit for two days.

This is Flagler College

This was the bridge leaving St Augustine.

4/16/16                                    Fernandina Beach

We made a 62 mile trip up to Fernandina Beach. This area of the Intracoastal is beginning to be more marshland and less inhabited.

But never fear, as we approached Fernandina Beach the homes were well worth seeing.

Check out the island under the bridge.

We went to the Marina’s Restaurant and had a nice dinner.

4/17/16 – 4/18/16        Jekyll Island, GA

The trip to Jekyll Island was only 34 miles. And it was a little rough as we proceeded through two sounds (inlets from the ocean).

Abandoned lighthouse on Cumberland Sound

This is a long range view of Jekyll Island and pictures as we approached the marina.

Jekyll Island is quite historic and quite unique. Here is the Marina office.

We went to the Jekyll Island Club Grand Dining Room for dinner the first night to celebrate my birthday, which was the day before. It was an unbelievable experience. Sorry, I forgot my camera.

We did ride our bikes around part of the island, and of course I made a stop at the beach.

4/19/16                                    Possum Point, GA

As we got farther into Georgia the scenery was predominantly marshes along the Intracoastal. And the waterways meandered back and forth. Waterfront homes were very rare.

We anchored for the night just inside Possum Point.
This area was also popular with the dolphin. I kept trying to talk them into coming over for a visit, but no takers. Here are a few shots.

We just pulled into Harbour Town Yacht Basin, on Hilton Head Island, SC. Come back next week for more shots from our continuing trip.
