7/25/15 – 7/30/15 Trent Severn Waterway to Bobcaygeon,
Ontario.
7/25/15 To Hastings (Lock 18)
We
traversed another 5 locks today to arrive in Hastings. I thought I’d share a
shot of a double lock from the outside this time. This shot actually shows more
clearly the impressive look as you approach it.
Note the water line on the back wall |
Along the way we passed the following interesting sites.
Hastings
itself was a really country little place. The big highlight of this area was
the delightful waterfront park where we docked.

7/26/15 - 7/27/15 On
to Peterborough, Ontario (thru Lock 19)
This
section of the trip took us through just 1 lock and we travelled 38 miles. Some
of the sites along this route follow.
Family Picnic |
Peterborough
Marina is a municipal marina. The area had a large picnic area as well as a
huge shell and field for concerts.
Peterborough
itself was quite a large city with lots of restaurants and shopping. However it
is famous for the Peterborough Lift Lock which is the largest lift
lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway. It lifts or lowers boats 65 feet. There is a
smaller one that we will experience later where we will be making the trip
down. We visited this lift by land before making the trip, so we have some
pictures from all angles.

7/28/15 To Young’s Point
7/29/15 - 7/30/15 Bobcaygeon
This trip
presented some of the prettiest and most dramatic scenery to date. I really
think it will be hard to beat this. We travelled through Clear Lake, Hells Gate
and Stony Lake.
And I
found these utterly mind boggling. I don’t know if these are just used during
the summer months, but I understand these lakes do freeze over in the winter. I
also heard that some of these are rentals.
And yes, they are all on islands! Even the church, it’s parking lot consisted of three piers!
Then we entered Bobcaygeon, where we tied up on the wall for 2 nights. These areas are predominantly above and/or below the locks. They are all wonderful little parks, like this one. This one had a concert on Thursday night.
This was a rather large city and a must stop on the Trent-Severn. We enjoyed our time here and did quite a bit of walking.
We
also now have a problem with our fridge. It is not staying cold overnight when
on 12 volt power. So we will be heading into a marina to see if we can get it
checked out. Our next stop has electric at the lock walls. So we’ll be OK
there.
We
have now traveled 138 miles along the Trent-Severn and up 579 feet.
Stay
tuned for more Trent-Severn.
Wow! Those locks are really something. And the island houses - that is interesting. Great pictures.
